Extrusion Operator
Department: Production
Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Classification: Hourly
Working Hours:2nd and 3rd Shifts
Position Summary:
Set-up and operation of cable/wire extrusion machine to manufacture insulated cable products.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Responsible to meet production standards by performing quality checks, in accordance with ISO procedures and following Process and Manufacturing specification sheets
- Troubleshoot manufacturing process, meeting production schedules and customer deadlines
- Must complete written production paperwork neatly and legible
- Communicate and work closely with fellow operators and supervisors to coordinate tasks, discuss production problems, and exchange information to produce quality products
- Subscribes to and practices 5S principles, procedures, and guidelines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Attention to detail is required in machine operation to minimize scrap
- Ability to work with a variety of cable and wire products
- Familiarity with frequent changeovers and handling of different compounds and raw materials in order to produce made to order and high quality products
- Must be able to read, follow and understand written and verbal instructions in English
- Good math skills and above average mechanical aptitude necessary.
- Hands-on experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring devices
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Wire and cable extrusion experience desirable
- Must distinguish colors and pass a colorblind test
Typical Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time - Frequent bending, stooping, moving within plant
- Repetitive pushing and pulling motion of wire cable materials
- Eye hand coordination - Hand and finger dexterity
- Must be able to lift, carry, relocate, move a minimum of 70 lbs. of objects, materials, and/or product
- Reading comprehension skills to understand written manufacturing specifications, instructions and procedures in English - Oral and written communication skills to exchange information with co-workers and supervisors
- Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safety headgear with shield and gloves when handling MEK, bander, and/or printer equipment
