Inventory Control Specialist


A leading wire and cable manufacturer since 1986, Hitachi Cable America designs and produces a broad range of advanced copper and fiber optic-based communication cable for clients in aerospace, medical, supercomputing, high-speed data, oil & gas exploration and the 5G wireless revolution.

Candidates with wire and cable manufacturing experience are preferred, but applicants with other manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply!

Reports to: Logistics Manager

Position Summary

Working with the Logistics Supervisor and the Director of Logistics and Inventory Management, the Inventory Control Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of inventory control. The Inventory Control Specialist verifies finished goods product, allocations, order picks, cycle counting, inventory adjustments and inventory accuracy.

Essential Functions

  • Counts and enters all finished goods products into inventory.
  • Allocates and picks orders based upon customer’s order criteria.
  • Communicates effectively to sales and manufacturing based upon daily needs and priorities.
  • Performs cycle counts and updates log based upon volume criteria.
  • Studies, standardizes and automates processes to improve inventory accuracy.
  • Creates computer generated reports relating to inventory control responsibilities and accuracy.
  • Ensures that all safety rules and regulations are complied with.
  • Maintain and monitor acceptable inventory level of finished goods and WIP.
  • Communicates with customers and employees in a professional manner at all times.
  • Must meet weekly, daily and hourly deadlines for key tasks related to inventory control.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor within the scope of responsibilities of this position.

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of finished good products and product identification.
  • Skilled in operating electric sit down fork trucks, stand-up, hand or reach trucks and pallet jacks in a warehouse environment to move stock and reorganize storage.
  • Ability to operate vehicle equipment in tight and/or congested areas.
  • Self motivated problem solver.
  • Ability to make adjustments for frequent interruptions and changing priorities caused by rush orders and/or production delays.
  • Respond to shifting priorities in a cooperative manner.
  • Ability to take direction and work with minimal supervision and as a team member.
  • Focus on accuracy and quality to ensure that all orders and transactions are accurate.
  • Respond to all inquiries timely and with professionalism.
  • Accurately performs multiple operational tasks assigned.
  • Strong commitment to quality, safety and efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is not responsible for the oversight or performance management of other employees.

Physical Demand

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, moving within the plant to load and unload orders.
  • Lifting, carrying, moving, and reaching to maneuver a minimum of 50 lbs. of materials, product, boxes, cartons, packages in the facility.
  • Move within facility to inside office locations and/or warehouse areas, to loading dock areas, including outdoors throughout all seasons.
  • Hand and finger dexterity.

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience with warehouse experience.
  • Experience with AS400 and Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Basic math skills necessary.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working with moving product physically and in the system.
  • Good oral communication skills to exchange information with employees, co-workers and management.
