Q: What is a composite cable?
A: A composite cable is a cable that includes both copper and optical fibers in its construction. The copper conductors may be for power or communication. The optical fibers are for communication. Hitachi Cable America offers a line of composite cables called Power+™ that include a pair of copper conductors for power and optical fibers for communication, which in most instances will be video. The Power+ composite cables are ideally suited for long distance camera applications where power and video are desired. The Power+ cables are also plenum-rated for indoor use and ruggedized for outdoor use. They are also UV resistant. There are multiple options for the copper conductor gauge size and optical fibers are available in 2, 6 and 12 strands.
